The enlargement of 2004 and 2007 significantly transformed the European Union in political, economic, and social terms. It also challenged the collective identities of Western Europeans as well as each of the newcomers. However, for new members, the prospect of joining a supranational political entity posed a threat to their newly established or regained sovereignty and nationhood. The integration triggered a process of redefinition of both their self-perception and the perception of Europe as a common project. The article offers a case study of how the Polish Members of the European Parliament discursively (re)construct national and European identities and how these constructions relate to each other. The analysis reveals three main visions of the European identity that are voiced by the Polish representation and corresponding visions of national identity. By focusing on the supranational level of the European Parliament and contextualising the analysed constructions with references to national debates, the study is able to nuance the existing theoretical accounts of European and national identities.

Rozpoznanie poziomu zachowań zdrowotnych u pacjentów z marskością wątroby.Materiał i metoda. Badaniami objęto 102 dorosłych chorych - 64 mężczyzn i 38 kobiet w wieku 23 – 68 lat, hospitalizowanych w oddziale wewnętrznym, chirurgicznym; leczonych ambulatoryjnie oraz przebywających w zakładzie leczniczo-opiekuńczym. Badania przeprowadzono od stycznia do kwietnia 2016 roku. Metodą badawczą był sondaż diagnostyczny, zaś narzędziem – autorski kwestionariusz ankiety oraz standardowy Inwentarz Zachowań Zdrowotnych (IZZ) wg Juczyńskiego.Wyniki. W badanej grupie u 39,2% chorych wskaźnik zachowań zdrowotnych (IZZ) był przeciętny (5-6 sten), u 31,4% był wysoki (7–10 sten), u 29,5% respondentów był niski (1-4 sten). Dominującym zachowaniem zdrowotnym w badanej grupie było pozytywne nastawienie psychiczne (głównie u kobiet – p<0,01), a najniższy wskaźnik dotyczył codziennych praktyk zdrowotnych (głównie u mężczyzn – p<0,02).Wnioski. Ogólny wskaźnik zachowań zdrowotnych pacjentów z marskością wątroby był przeciętny, a dominującą kategorią było pozytywne nastawienie psychiczne, zaś najniższe wyniki dotyczyły codziennych praktyk zdrowotnych. Konieczne jest rozpowszechnianie edukacji zdrowotnej wśród chorych z marskością wątroby odnośnie codziennych praktyk zdrowotnych oraz prawidłowych nawyków żywieniowych. Edukacją zdrowotną należy objąć szczególnie mężczyzn z niższym wykształceniem, mieszkających na wsi, w wieku powyżej 50 roku życia. Słowa kluczowe: marskość wątroby, zachowania zdrowotne. SummaryIntroduction. In recent years an increase has been observed in morbidity due to cirrhosis of the liver. According to the specialists, the advancing process of fibrosis of hepatic cells depends, among others, on anti-health behaviours.Objective. Diagnosis of the level of health behaviours in patients with liver cirrhosis.Materials and method. The study included 102 adult patients - 64 males and 38 females, aged 23 – 68, hospitalized in the internal surgical ward, who received ambulatory treatment or stayed in a health care facility. The study was conducted during the period from January – April 2016. The research method was a diagnostic survey, while the instrument – a questionnaire designed by the author, and the standard Health Behaviour Inventory, according to Juczyński.Results. In the examined group, in 39.2% of patients the Health Behaviour Inventory (HBI) was mediocre (5-6 stens), in 31.4% the result was high (7–10 stens), and in 29.5% of respondents - low (1-4 stens). The dominant health behaviour in the group examined was a positive psychol0ogical attitude (mainly among women – p<0.01), whereas the lowest indicator concerned daily health practices (mainly in males – p<0.02).Conclusions. The general indicator of health behaviours of patients with cirrhosis of the liver was mediocre, and the dominant category was a positive psychological attitude, while the lowest results were obtained with respect to daily health practices. It is necessary to spread health education among patients with cirrhosis of the liver, concerning daily health practices and correct nutritional habits. Health education should be especially addressed to males with a lower education level, living in rural areas, and aged over 50. Key words: cirrhosis of the liver, health behaviours.

Food and eating serve as an expression of social relations and roles as well as a mechanism sustaining or challenging social structure and roles. This also includes marking and reproducing gender roles and identities. With the profound social, cultural, and political changes that have taken place there recently, Poland offers an interesting case study for grasping the changing meaning of both food and gender and the relationship between them. The aim of this article is therefore twofold—to present available data on food choices among men and women (mostly dietary choices) and to offer a socio-cultural interpretation of the data by discussing it in the context of emerging food regimes and recent gender transformations. In other words, we will be interested in finding out how food is incorporated in doing gender in the Polish context and how it can be interpreted in the light of scholarly work on both gender and food.

The article aims to address the complexity of the models of masculinity (re)produced in the transnational context and explain the role of religion in this process. It draws on qualitative research conducted among religiously committed Catholic male migrants from Poland who have settled in multicultural and secular societies: England, Belgium, and Sweden. The transnational context often makes it difficult for migrant men to practice hegemonic masculinity. Our analysis shows how the isomorphic mechanisms allow for (re)constructing new forms of masculinity that combine diverse and often contradictory meanings available in the transnational contexts (i.e., associated with subordinated masculinities or with femininity). Such hybridized version of masculinity not only helps to adapt to the new transnational context but also allows for rebuilding the privileges traditionally offered by hegemonic masculinity. We also discuss the role religion plays in this process by giving credibility to this hybrid masculinity by rooting it in the sacral order and thus legitimizing it.

Próby zmiany prawa regulującego dostęp do aborcji w Polsce, podjęte przez polski Sejm w 2016 i 2018, zainicjowały intensywną społeczną mobilizację i szerokie protesty społeczne, określane wspólną nazwą "Czarnych Protestów". Tę mobilizację traktujemy jako próbę (prze)definiowania obowiązujących pojęć obywatelstwa, a w szczególności jako wyraz poszukiwania nowego modelu obywatelstwa intymnego, czyli publicznego przedefiniowania praw dotyczących prywatnej, intymnej sfery. Celem autorek artykułu jest analiza wspomnianych (re)artykulacji intymnego obywatelstwa. W pierwszej części tekstu autorki opisują, czym były Czarne Protesty oraz Ogólnopolski Strajk Kobiet, a także przybliżają kontekst ich powstania oraz postulaty. W drugiej części zdefiniowana zostaje kategoria obywatelstwa, a w szczególności obywatelstwa intymnego. Następnie przedstawiona zostaje metodologia badań. W ostatniej, analitycznej części artykułu autorki rekonstruują wizje obywatelstwa intymnego wyłaniające się z analizowanego materiału empirycznego.
